About
So, my name is Jayson Whelpley. I’m sure you want to know the usual things about me – DOB, relationship status, occupation, interests, beliefs, etc. I guess I could give it to you.
I was born on August 12, 1980 to Kathleen D. and Bill V. in my true hometown – Erie, PA. I graduated from Harbor Creek High School in ’98 and Edinboro University of PA in ’02.
I was married to Carrie A. on August 14th, ’04 – we now live in Arlington, VA.
More? You want more?
Okay, Carrie and I work for Campus Crusade for Christ in the Washington DC area, and love the job (well, everything except the driving).
I enjoy a wide variety of interests, I guess I’ll list a few: disc golf, smoking a pipe, hiking, theology, technology, cinema, hardcore music… there’s more, but I’m done for now.
My Beliefs
I don’t believe that God is an exclusivist, He wants to have a relationship with all of us; that’s actually WHY He created us. We screw it up though, we do things that are equal to turning our back, slapping or spitting on His face – these are the things that the Bible calls sin. I’m not talking about the 10 commandments – just the things that you’ve done wrong, that you KNOW you’ve done wrong… think about it, you have those things you’ve done too.
We claim that God is infinitely loving (which He is), but He is also infinitely Holy and Just. How can someone who is completely pure and wholly just let people off when we do wrong things… would a human judge who didn’t convict criminals be a good judge?
The weird thing is that God is also infinitely merciful. The sentence for our sin is a death sentence… that’s what our ‘paycheck’ is at the end of our days. But God decided to do something about that because He can’t bear to leave us to our own path of destruction; He sent Jesus Christ who lived a life free from giving in to the temptation to sin, He had earned a completely different ‘paycheck’ – eternal life. Christ offers us this in His death – a swap of paychecks. Because Jesus is God and God is infinite, the payment of His death is able to cover for ALL of us!
He doesn’t force it on us though. We still are the rightful owners of our own paycheck. He extends to us the ‘Currency’ to cover our debt, but we have to receive that payment and give up our debt to Him to pay. Whose paycheck do you want?
